Texas AAPI Advocacy Collective Rally to Protect Freedoms & Embrace Communities’ Full Diversity

Following massive rallies and hours of public testimony AAPI Texans release  forward-looking policy solutions

AUSTIN, Texas- On Thursday, March 9, 2023, the Texas AAPI Advocacy Collective (TAAC) will hold a major press conference and rally outside the State Capitol to announce policy priorities for the 88th legislative session, including language access, public education, and other measures to affirm that all Texans, no matter where they were born, can pursue their dreams and build a good life in Texas.

WHEN: 1-1:30 p.m.: Texas AAPI Advocacy Collective Press Conference to announce 88th session policy priorities

1:30-2:00 p.m.: Performances by Woori Juntos and SAAVETXEF/Impact

WHERE: Southwest Lawn - Texas State Capitol, 1100 Congress Ave., Austin, Texas

WHO: Press conference speakers will be available for interviews in-person after the event, or remotely.

  • Lily Trieu (She/Her/ Hers) Interim Executive Director, Asian Texans for Justice

  • Rish Oberoi (He/Him/Him), Texas State Director, Indian American Impact Project

  • Melissa C. Allala, (She/They), Advocacy Associate Director and Data Analyst, OCA-Greater Houston

  • Chanda Parbhoo (She/Her/Hers) Executive Director/Founder SAAVETX Education Fund

  • Hyunja Norman (She/Her/Hers), Executive Director, Woori Juntos

Throughout the day, AAPI Texans will be meeting with state legislators in their offices and holding a press conference with cultural (Korean drumming and Garba dancing) performances on the Southwest Lawn. AAPI Texans, including community members who are of Pacific Islander, Southeast Asian, South Asian, West Asian, Central Asian, and East Asian descent, have come together as TAAC to advocate for our needs and concerns. This advocacy comes at a critical time when some politicians are proposing xenophobic legislation SB 147, SB 711 and SB 552 to divide communities of color and distract us from uniting for the shared resources we need to thrive.
