Art as Activism: Join the Artivism Showcase in Houston
Art has always been a powerful tool for change. It captures the rawness of human experience, speaks when words fail, and pushes boundaries — sometimes gently, sometimes with force. This year, we’re inviting Houston artists to be part of something bigger than an exhibition.
The Artivism Showcase is more than an art show — it’s an open gallery where art and activism meet, giving space for voices that have been silenced and battles that are still being fought.
We’re looking for artists of all backgrounds, mediums and levels of experience — visual artists, poets, musicians, and creators of all kinds — to submit their work. And we don’t want you to hold back. This isn’t about one piece — we encourage you to submit multiple works (up to three) that speak to your vision, your voice, and the causes you care about.
If you’ve never submitted artwork before, that’s okay - we’d love to be your first. 😉
Our Themes:
Stories Untold
History is full of stories that never made the headlines — the quiet heroes, the unseen struggles, the moments of solidarity erased from the public eye. Stories Untold is about reclaiming those narratives, shedding light on the people, movements and ideas that have shaped the fight for justice and equality, even when no one was watching.
Unfinished Business
The fight for civil rights and activism didn’t end with a single victory — it’s a continuous struggle. Unfinished Business asks artists to confront the ongoing work still needed in our communities. What issues remain unresolved? Whose voices are still being ignored? How does activism evolve, and what role does art play in keeping the fight alive?
Why This Showcase Matters:
The Artivism Showcase isn’t just an event — it’s a platform. It’s a space where creativity fuels conversation and art becomes a catalyst for change. By participating, you’re not only sharing your work — you’re helping build a movement, inspiring others to see the world not just as it is, but as it could be.
Houston’s art community has always been bold, vibrant, and unafraid to speak out. Let’s come together — not just as artists, but as advocates. Your art has a voice. Let’s make sure it’s heard.
