Disaster Relief

Description goes here.

  • As TX State Rep. Gene Wu said on August 29, 2017, “This may be the worst of times. But this is the best of humanity.” As a community of immigrants and children of immigrants, it is in our roots to band together and help each other out in the face of disaster.

    Here’s how you can help:

Donate now. OCA–Greater Houston and our community partners have established the Harvey AAPI Community Relief Fund that will work in conjunction with the Harvey Community Relief Fund that was founded by other trusted organizations in Houston to pool resources and coordinate their distribution. We want to make sure that the AAPI community is represented and adequately served in efforts to recover and rebuild, and that aid is distributed efficiently and equitably to all underserved populations of Houston. Harvey is a disaster of historic proportions and is not something that is short-term. We are looking at a multi-year time period where people will need shelter and assistance and years of work to help communities rebuild over the long term.

  • Houston-based AAPI communities have been hit hard by the recent power outage which caused many to lose electricity, heat, and access to food and water. We ask for your support to raise $25,000 to provide packaged perishable foods to underserved Houston's AAPI communities.

$25,000 will provide for 500 families a large bag of rice, noodles, and a gift card to buy meat at an Asian grocery store. We will be assisting AAPI senior centers and families in the Asiatown/Chinatown area near Bellaire Blvd and the Vietnamese apartment village enclave in the Southside area.

Currently, these communities have little to no access or transportation to mainstream food distributions. We will organize food drop-offs/distributions to these communities in partnership with BPSOS-Houston, VNTeamwork, and other community partner organizations.

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity!
