The 19th Annual Houston Asian American Pacific Islander Film Festival (HAAPIFEST) kicked off this past weekend.

This year’s festival will feature 41 films from 13 AAPI communities from June 3 to June 11. Screenings will be available online until June 10.

According to a press release, 75 people attended Saturday’s opening night reception. Attendees were treated to food and drink, a panel featuring some of the filmmakers showcased in the festival and a screening of the Filipino-American movie “Kapwa Texas.”

“We are thrilled with the size and enthusiasm of our opening-night crowd,” HAAPIFEST Co-Director Christina Fu said in a press release. “What a great way to kick off our festival.”

A closing reception will be held on June 11. A documentary about renowned Asian American photographer Corky Lee, “Photographic Justice: The Corky Lee Story,” will be screened that day.
