Bao Phi is a Vietnamese American spoken word artist. A two-time Minnesota Grand Slam champion and National Poetry Slam finalist, he was born in Saigon, Vietnam and grew up in Minneapolis. The author of the Refugeography poetry CD, Bao Phi has performed at numerous venues including New York City poet’s cafes and the University of California, Berkeley.







A Different Pond, his award-winning picture book, follows a Vietnamese American boy fishing at a lake as his father reminiscences about a pond in their homeland, Vietnam. Bao Phi’s skillfully crafted words reveal and reflect on themes of immigration, racism, and the power of nature.
