Kate Gavino is a native Houstonian writer and illustrator. She is the creator of the website Last Night's Reading, now compiled into a published collection by Penguin Books in 2015. Recently named one of Brooklyn Magazine’s 30 Under 30, her works have been featured in BuzzFeed, Lenny Letter, Oprah.com, Rookie, and other publications.

SANPAKU, her latest project, is an upcoming graphic novel to be published by BOOM! Studios in August 2018. A coming-of-age story set in Houston, SANPAKU follows the life of Marcine, a Filipino-American girl whose daily experiences feature multi-generational families, religion, and identity. Through the eyes of Marcine, Kate Gavino explores the ancient Japanese theory of Sanpaku and her own Catholic, Filipino background.
