PLEASE DONATE: HOUSTON KATRINA APIA RELIEF FUNDS Thank you to all who stepped up to the plate in 2005 to help fellow community members in their time of need. Thousands of families from Louisiana, Mississippi, and possibly even from Alabama arrived in Houston, seeking help from local Houstonians. The immediate help these families needed were housing, food and medical needs. The local APIA community has been working together to provide assistance to people in need. BPSOS, HOPE Clinic, CCC, and other organizations have been on the front line helping people with FEMA applications, Food Stamps, vouchers for prescription medicine to the non-insured, food, and other assistance. However, now is the time that continued support is needed to help the thousands of APIA families rebuild their homes and lives. We continue to need your support to specifically support the efforts of the local Asian/Pacific Islander American Community to address the needs of people with language and cultural barriers. Addressing the continuing needs of Katrina survivors is a long-term issue. This is a process many in the APIA non-profit community anticipate will continue over the next two years. After consultation with our community partners, OCA Greater Houston has set up a Legal Internship, Advocacy & Services program to specifically work with our community partner organizations with addressing the legal needs of Katrina survivors. OCA-Greater Houston is maintaining an online donation system to assist in collecting online donations in support of this effort. Please give what you can.
